For a small village, Strasburg is packed with things to do and see. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, local cuisine, new discoveries, or engaging activities, you’ll find it at Strasburg.
Strasburg Rail Road
One of the most popular attractions in Strasburg is the Strasburg Rail Road, America’s oldest short line. People have driven to Strasburg to ride the 4.5-mile track aboard an authentic steam train for 64+ years. While a few things have changed over the years, the cars and engines continue to be authentically restored so guests get a true taste of what it would be like to ride the rails in early 20th century.
In addition to a 45-minute steam train ride through Amish farmland, guests can enjoy some of the new opportunities offered at the railroad, including the In-Cab Experiences or the Escape room. If you like to plan ahead, it’s not too soon to think about Christmas. Tickets for the annual Christmas Trains are already selling fast.
Old Windmill Farm
Looking for a hands-on way to experience Amish culture? Consider visiting the Lapp family at their private Old Windmill Farm. This working Amish farm gives visitors a peek into the Amish life of Pennsylvania, giving tours and chores to farm visitors. Depending on the season, visitors will be able to participate in activities such as bottle-feeding baby calves, milking a cow, gathering eggs, sampling food from the garden, going on a hayride, churning butter, baking bread, and pressing cider.
Choo Choo Barn
Be amazed by this 1700 sq. ft. work of art at the Choo Choo Barn with over 150 hand-built animated figures and vehicles and 22 operating trains. This unique attraction features a complicated layout with figures enjoying varied scenes, from ski slopes and woodlands to fire houses and tobacco barns. Some of the scenes and pieces date to the original layout from the late 1940s. People of all ages will be delighted with the moving figures and steam trains. Start your own model train hobby by picking up your first engines at the Strasburg Train Shop located on the premises.
Speckled Hen
With a full day of adventuring, you’ll likely work up an appetite. After grabbing a snack at Strasburg Rail Road’s new Popcorn Wagon, stop by Strasburg’s Speckled Hen to experience the delicious lunch and dinner menus made with the freshest ingredients from local farmers. The artisan meals, pastries, and coffees offered by the Speckled Hen change with the seasons. Visiting this cozy shop will give visitors a look into what makes Strasburg so unique, diverse, and beautiful. If you’re tight on time you can still enjoy Speckled Hen’s menu aboard the Strasburg Rail Road’s dining car.
