Introduction

Strasburg Rail Road Company is committed to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all guests aboard its trains and within its premises. As part of this commitment, the Strasburg Rail Road Company has established guidelines regarding the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages by Guests. This policy applies to all guests, visitors, and patrons of Strasburg Rail Road properties or leases, including those who are aboard the trains or within Strasburg Rail Road facilities.

Statement

Strasburg Rail Road permits the consumption of alcoholic beverages purchased onsite by Guests on properly licensed train cars while the train is moving, provided such consumption is in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and does not disrupt the safety, comfort, or enjoyment of other Guests. Guests are responsible for ensuring that they consume alcohol responsibly and in moderation. Under no circumstances are Guests permitted to bring their own alcohol onto any SRC property or train equipment and consume it without prior written consent. From time to time, the SRC may partner with third-party vendors for special events and allow them to serve alcohol under the third party’s proper special event license.

Compliance with Pennsylvania Laws

All Guests who wish to consume alcoholic beverages aboard Strasburg Rail Road trains must adhere to the following guidelines to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania laws.

  1. Legal Drinking Age: Guests must be of legal drinking age in Pennsylvania, 21 years old, to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages.
  2. Identification: Guests may be required to present valid identification to verify their age before purchasing or consuming alcoholic beverages. Acceptable forms of identification include a state-issued driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued identification card with a photo and date of birth.
  3. Prohibited Activities: Guests are prohibited from engaging in the following activities related to alcohol:
    •  Underage drinking.
    • Intoxication or impairment that disrupts the safety or enjoyment of other guests and SRC staff.
    • Providing alcohol to minors.
    • Bringing outside alcoholic beverages onto Strasburg Rail Road premises for a special event without prior written authorization.
    • Consuming alcohol in designated train cars before a train moves.
    • Bringing alcohol onto Strasburg Rail Road properties without prior written permission and/or consuming it or carrying an open container.

Designated Areas

Alcoholic beverages at Strasburg Rail Road may only be consumed in designated (alcohol-licensed) train cars, or in special event locations requiring prior written consent. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted in non-designated areas, including boarding platforms, railroad tracks, roadways, shops, parking areas, sitting areas, retail stores, restaurants, and outdoor dining areas.

Hours of Service/Operations:

Alcoholic beverages will only be served during designated hours of operation established by Strasburg Rail Road management. Special event exceptions for hours of service will be specified in a prior written consent document.

Service Restrictions:

Strasburg Rail Road employees reserve the right to refrain from serving a Guest who is visibly intoxicated or appears to have violated any portion of this policy.

Age verification for each guest purchasing alcohol must be provided.

Servers will not open, carry, touch, serve, or otherwise handle alcohol brought by Guests onsite to a special event.

Servers must wait until a passenger train is underway to serve alcohol to Guests. The alcohol can be consumed during the entirety of the trip and continued to be consumed upon arrival back at East Strasburg when the train is at rest if the alcohol was served while the train was in motion. Guests can continue consuming the beverage on the train car they originally purchased a ticket for until directed otherwise by an SRC staff member. Under no circumstances are Guests permitted to carry an alcoholic beverage off the train.
